Regional Waste Storage Kft. compost produced by may soon appear on the market. The company expects to obtain the necessary permits for sales in the near future, after the so-called "ceasing of waste status" procedure is completed. This opens the possibility for a wider use of compost in the maintenance of public green spaces and in agriculture.
Regional Waste Storage Kft. has been producing compost for years from sludge from the city's sewage treatment plant, as well as green waste from the seven local municipalities, which are part of the regional waste management system. The finished compost is regularly subjected to laboratory tests, and the company has started the process in order to bring this product to the market.
- Currently, it is regulated in such a way that everything that comes to us is actually considered waste. We submitted the application to register the end of the waste status in order to be able to put the compost on the market. I hope we will get the green light within a month - explains Tibor Nagy, Regionalis Hulladéktáróló Kft. its director. - For the production of compost, we use sludge from the treatment plant in Sabtka and green waste, i.e. biomass from all the villages whose waste is disposed of by us. These undergo regular laboratory tests.
In addition to the finished compost, the quality of the sludge used for its production is also checked. Regional Waste Storage Kft. according to his statement, tests have shown that the sludge does not contain any harmful substances that would endanger its use as compost.
– The sewage sludge is of adequate quality and does not contain harmful substances such as lead and the like. A comprehensive study was also prepared, the results of which confirmed that sludge is a suitable compost material, added Nagy.
The plan is that the compost will initially be used by public companies for the maintenance of green areas, and later it will be made available to agricultural producers as well.
- Last year we received 8,600 tons of sludge and 2,000 tons of green waste, and currently we have about 5,000 tons of ready compost - clarified the statement.
By the way, from October, Ada will also join the regional waste management system, so the residents of the village will sort their household waste in the two-bin system. In addition to Szabadka, the Regional Waste Storage Center currently receives waste from Magyarkanizsa, Topolya, Zenta, Kishegyes, Csóka and Törökkanizsa.
